BusAs part of our initiative to move to a paperless office, we find ourselves less in need of binders, report covers, staplers, hole punches, file folders and, well… paper. So what do we do with a room full of these supplies? ZA Law was able to donate several truckloads of unused office supplies to a few great causes in the Denver Area:

Minority Enterprise & Educational Development, in partnership with WBENC (of which ZA Law is a proud member) accepted several boxes of ZA Law supplies for their annual “Stuff the Bus” School Supply Donation Program. These will help fill the backpacks of underprivileged DPS students headed to school this fall. A truckload of ZA Law supplies also went to Colorado Resource Area for Teaching, a foundation dedicated to supporting local teachers by providing access to necessary school room supplies.

Zupkus & Angell is proud to be an active partner in our community and looks forward to finding more unique opportunities to contribute!

The Zupkus & Angell team had the exciting opportunity to donate their time and energy to Denver’s own SAME Café on August 14th and 15th.

2012.11.05 Angell Rick PIC 532x800In 1978, shortly after Rick Angell's admittance to the Colorado bar, he volunteered to take pro-bono cases with a group called the "Thursday Night Bar," now known as, "Metro Volunteer Lawyers." The organization allows people who cannot afford an attorney to seek legal advice and, when needed, representation at no charge. Rick focuses his pro-bono work on guardianship cases. His wife presented the idea to him after she observed that a few of the families who attended their church had family members with disabilities. She wondered what would happen to the disabled family member after the parents were no longer able to care for them and encouraged Rick to help them. Rick now helps these families in need by taking them on as pro-bono clients and making sure they receive proper care.

MAK HeadshotIn September of 2013, Colorado was hit by a devastating flood. This natural disaster caused catastrophic amounts of damage and those affected desperately needed assistance. The Colorado community came together to lend support and the legal community was no exception. Z&A partner, Muliha Khan, acted as a volunteer for the Colorado Joint Disaster Legal Services Task Force, a relief effort consisting of Colorado legal organizations and bar associations partnering with FEMA. Muliha provided legal advice to flood victims focusing on those facing landlord/tenant issues. The flood created unique legal issues that were often difficult to navigate. However, by consulting with other volunteer attorneys and drawing upon her own expertise, Muliha was able to support those who needed legal assistance. To date the Task Force has served over 430 flood victims. Muliha is proud to be part of this effort.
