Derek Blass joins Zupkus & Angell with a background in
community development and strong district affiliation. With
Zupkus & Angell Derek works primarily on construction defect
litigation, insurance defense and personal injury cases.
He also conducts discovery, drafts motions and works closely
with the firm's clients.
Derek's diverse background and desire to be involved in
the community allowed him to be awarded with the First Annual
DU Schimberg Diversity Scholarship for academic excellence
and community involvement. His commitment to the study of
law enabled him to receive one of only fifteen positions
for a clerkship through the highly selective Colorado Pledge
to Diversity 1L Summer Clerkship Program at the University
of Denver's College of Law.
Previous to joining the firm, Derek worked as a law clerk
for a large local law firm, conducting research, authoring
motions for summary judgment and analyzing appeal issues.
While attending the University of Denver's College of Law,
Derek was president of the Latino Law Student Association
where he worked diligently to bring the National Latino
Law Student Conference to Denver for the first time ever.
He successfully secured numerous well-known speakers including
the president of the Farm Labor Organizing Committee.
Derek is bilingual in Spanish and English.
